Fiegl & Igel: An Exploration of Abstract Colorform to Soft Realism Westcott Community Art Gallery
Price: Free Westcott Community Center
Corner of Euclid Ave. and Westcott St.,
Syracuse
Fiegl's works focus on the interplay between color and form (Abstract Colorform) that has been his hallmark since the early 1980s, at one time being called the Jackson Pollock of his generation. Newcomer Igel focuses on the other end of the painting spectrum with works in the impressionistic to soft realistic realm, with skyscapes as his predominant subject matter. Between the two artists, viewers will delight in the broad range of style and techniques from the ethereal to the photographic.

Opening: Glass Works by Phil Austin Imagine
Imagine
38 E. Genesee St.,
Skaneateles
Opening reception 6:00-9:00 tonight during the village's First Friday art night. Refreshments and musical entertainment will be provided. An exhibition by Phil Austin of Snake Oil Glassworks will run throughout August. Austin is known throughout the region for his handcrafted glass bowls, vases and pumpkins. Most of his works are done in the traditional way—freehand, without a mold. All are created at his hot glass studio on Jordan Road in Skaneateles. The studio, built in 2004, houses a hot shop (where the furnace is located), a coldworking shop, and a retail store and gallery. Austin, who earned a master of fine arts degree in the glass program at the School for American Crafts at Rochester Institute of Technology, also teaches design and drawing at Onondaga Community College.

Dinner at 6:30 pm, followed by show at 8:00 pm. Shakespeare, inheritance plots, and cross dressing—just another day in Amish country! From the writer of Lend Me a Tenor and Moon Over Buffalo comes a sidesplitting comedy of mistaken identity and harebrained schemes. Leo and Jack are two Shakespearean actors who are so down on their luck that they're playing "Scenes from Shakespeare" on the Moose Lodge circuit in Pennsylvania's Amish country. When they read about a rich old woman in York, PA, who is about to die and leave her fortune to her two, long-lost nephews, whom no one has seen since birth, they decide to high-tail it to York to impersonate the two men. It's only when they're a few minutes out of town that they realize that the nephews are in fact nieces, and that they must appear in York as Maxine and Stephanie if they're to collect the loot.

It's the final night of Big American Star, and America is going to get a chance to vote for its next...big American star. The contestants are at each other's throats, dangerously close to ripping out one another's vocal chords, while the judges and host stir up drama to boost sagging ratings. By the time the contestants are ready to sing, the atmosphere has turned murderous, and the contestants may "knock 'em dead" in more ways than one. The show is an interactive murder mystery that involves the members of the audience.

Glass Works by Phil Austin Imagine
Imagine
38 E. Genesee St.,
Skaneateles
